Packing Efficiently for a Getaway with Friends
Do you love a gateway with all the girls? The cocktails, laughs, and good vibes start as soon as you hit the airport. They continue to flow throughout the entire holiday! It’s an amazing feeling being abroad and surrounded by your best mates. However, we do know that it isn’t always the easiest task when it comes to organising.
If you’re all on the same wavelength about things, then your holiday is going to be a breeze but what if you have different tastes and ways of doing things? What if you’re the early bird but one of your girls likes to lay in, or what if you’re a party animal and the others like to do sightseeing of the city? You won’t lose love between each other but it can cause a few challenges.
I’ve been on a few challenging holidays with my girls where we’ve bickered and timing has been an issue but I’ve also had the stress-free and pure bliss holidays where everything went correctly. Let me give you some tips and tricks on how to travel with your girlies.
First and foremost, get on the same page! This seems like an obvious one but most people do not have the same expectations on what they want to do on holiday. For example, imagine one of the girls envisioned raving it up at the clubs in Miami, whilst the rest wanted to explore the different sights, relax on the beach and discover the different cuisines of the city. You can be surprised as to how your intentions can change once abroad. Therefore to avoid unnecessary drama, it’s best to get clear.
Make a group chat on WhatsApp or gather together to discuss what everyone would like to get up to once abroad. Have a theme and vision in mind all together and stick to it. Balance is key!
Plan and Pre-book! I know this may sound like a chore but believe me when I say, this is the best thing to do. Planning and pre-booking things to do before going abroad saves up so much more of your time once you’re out there. I’m talking about day beds, events, exhibitions, tickets to clubs, sun loungers, restaurants and more because some destinations are filled with guests, so the last thing you want is to not be able to enter certain venues. Always better to be safe than sorry, am I right ladies?
Have a responsibility! Allowing each person to have some kind of responsibility, can make the entire trip all the more easier. From anything as simple as reserving a table at a restaurant or someone being the designated driver, it just means that everyone’s pulling their weight and contributing a fair amount into make the trip a joyful experience.
Balance is key! When with friends I become very thoughtful because I know how we all have different habits and interests. If I want to be more selfish, then I go on a solo trip but in this case marrying everyone’s interests in one trip is where balance is required. I’m aware that some prefer to lounge by the pool or get a tan at the beach whilst others love to bask in the city's landmarks and culture. It’s nice to be considerate by applying a sense of balance of everyone’s wants and needs on the holiday. It’s very important to be adaptable and open to things you may not usually be interested in.
Leave room for spontaneity! Being organised is fantastic but having an itinerary for every single thing seems very militant to me. Cheer up, it's a holiday not an army base boot camp. Know how to go with the flow, and the best way to do this is to leave a day out or a few empty. This allows all the girls to figure out what they want to do and welcome spontaneity into the mix. After all, some of the best plans have been those unplanned, so leave room for mystery.
It’s a blessing to be able to have a good set of friends and to be able to create amazing memories abroad with them. I hope this article has helped in some way and you and the girls can enjoy your travels!
