Christmas in London 2021

Christmas in London 2021

And in a blink of an eye, it is almost Christmas again. But after a whirlwind of a year, we are sure everyone is looking forward to celebrating the festive season more than ever. London gets into the festive spirit at Christmas, with all kinds of Christmas markets, theatre, and, of course, the world-famous Christmas lights.

Having lived in London for over 6 years nows, I've explored and experienced the best activities for the winter festivities… I’ve put together an insider's guide to make the most of your trip.

Christmas Markets

From the big daddy of Christmas markets: Winter Wonderland in Hyde Park to the more relaxed Winterville in Clapham Common – there are plenty of spots to do pre-Christmas shopping, slurp up mulled wine and eat all the Christmassy sweet treats that you could ask for.

Afternoon Tea

In my opinion, everyone should experience a swanky afternoon tea at least once in their lifetime. We recommend Claridges or The Ritz (the latter is my fave), it makes a perfect escape from the cold. Indulge in some exotic teas, classic finger sandwiches, and delicious fresh scones with clotted cream in glamorous surroundings.

Ice Skating

You know it’s almost Christmas in London when ice-skating rinks start popping up. The definition of festive fun, tie up your skates and wrap up warm! Ice skating is one of my favourite Christmas activities; there’s just something wonderfully romantic, festive, and fun about it. The venues are brilliantly decorated and all lit up in almost a fairytale-esque way! The Natural History Museum or Somerset House are my top choices!

Christmas Lights

Nothing signifies the approach of Christmas like the glow of seasonal street lights. As the nights get darker the lights truly light up the capital, and the great thing about the London Christmas lights is that they are completely and utterly free. Head over to Oxford St, Regent St, and Carnaby St to keep your holiday spirits high.

West End Pantomime

With theatres reopen and the lockdown cobwebs brushed away, a trip to the pantomime is a classic Christmas activity for families. London plays host to some of the best Christmas shows in the UK, from star-studded traditional pantos to modern twists there is a show for you. Be quick, seats are selling fast!

Shopping

Whether you prefer strolling through pop-up holiday bazaars or spending a full day at Harrod’s, this shopping capital has something for everyone on your list. I recommend making a trip to Liberty London to pick out unique beautiful gifts or head over to Dover Street Market to shop for innovative fashion-forward brands.

Winter Terrace

Among the many things London does exceptionally well is winter terraces. In between ice skating, shopping, and the general chaos that comes with the festive season, one of the best ways to spend Christmas in London is curled up somewhere warm with a glass of mulled wine. The capital is full of picturesque alfresco dining and drinking destinations.

So, there we are – the most fun things to do in London at Christmas. We want to make sure you have the Christmas you deserve, go forth and eat all the mince pies, washed down with lashings of mulled wine.
